New Publications

Since January 1999 the High-Poverty Schools Initiative has published Gaining Ground, a monthly project newsletter aimed at sharing best practices for improving student achievement in high-poverty schools. To date, HPSI staff has prepared a range of articles focusing on the assessment of limited English proficient students, the disproportionate representation of students of color in special education programs, the Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration program, extended learning opportunities, and implementation of ESEA among other topics. Most issues also include an article that concentrates on improving student health and social well-being. In January 2003, Gaining Ground became a bimonthly.
