CCSSO Hurricane Relief Efforts

Please send all specific Katrina-related inquiries and comments to at katrinarelief@ccsso.org.

If You Want to Help or Need Assistance

Whether you would like to donate money/supplies to states or schools directly, or you are in need of help, there are many options right now. The U.S. Department of Education, Louisiana Department of Education, Mississippi Department of Education, and Texas Department of Education, respectively, have set up websites for those interested in making a donation or requesting assistance. There is also a program which runs throughout the country called "Classroom Wishlist," which enables teachers to login and request supplies of any kind. Parents, companies, and organization can then donate what they are able to. The addresses for these websites are as follows:

Student/Teacher Toolkit Update

FAQs:

Q: Where should supplies be sent?
A: We suggest that you go to the U.S. Department of Education's Hurricane Help for Schools website. That page features resources regarding how to donate supplies and money.

Q: How should toolkits be shipped?
A: We are suggesting that you work with your local service providers (FedEx, UPS, etc.) to handle shipping needs. We originally asked that all toolkits be prepared with a one dollar bill to provide for shipping costs. Depending on the cost of shipping, it may be necessary to have a separate fundraiser.

Displaced Student Statistics

Currently CCSSO is collecting information from all states regarding the number of displaced students enrolling in their schools. This information is vital in determining the specific funding and supply needs for each area. The data we have received thus far is collected in the following table:
