CCSSO Reflects on Senator Kennedy's Dedication to Children and Public Education

"We know the future will outlast all of us, but I believe that all of us will live on in the future we make," stated Senator Edward Kennedy.

CCSSO expresses its great sorrow at the passing of a true champion for public education, Senator Edward Kennedy. Regardless of political persuasion, all must recognize and admire his accomplishments and record. Senator Kennedy, the heart and soul of the federal commitment to all children and to public education, the center of every public policy decision regarding federal education policy for the last 30 years, was always open to sincere and thoughtful dialogue. His passion for equity and reform is like none other. As chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, he worked with CCSSO to support comprehensive education reform and ensure all children had access to a good public education. This is a great loss for our country, yet we know his legacy will live on through our public education system.
