School Health Project

“Our vision for our nation’s schools is to ensure high standards of performance for every one of our children and prepare each child to succeed as a productive member of a democratic society. Educators throughout the country are striving to achieve this national priority. Yet how can every child succeed when so many reach the schoolhouse door with physical and mental health challenges that impede their ability to learn and compromise their likelihood of becoming healthy, capable adults?” (From the
"Policy Statement on School Health").

The School Health Project was founded in 1987 to build the capacity of chief state school officers, their staff, and partners to create strong school health policies and programs that support the goal of removing the nonacademic barriers to learning faced by the nation’s children.

The project receives funding from a number of sources. These funds are used to support a variety of services to state education agencies and their partners. In addition, the project works in partnership with other organizations to support the state education agencies.
