Handbook for Professional Development in Assessment Literacy is a publication of CCSSO's State Collaborative on Assessment and Student Standards (SCASS) Comprehensive Assessment Systems for IASA Title I (CAS). The Handbook, available on CD-ROM, is a three-year project of the SCASS CAS Professional Development Study Group. It is intended to provide a valuable resource to states and districts as they implement state and district assessment systems aligned to standards for purposes of improving student learning through accountability and school improvement. This document serves as a resource for informing the various constituents of education about the purposes of assessment and the importance of having an assessment system that is aligned to the overall educational system. The CD includes electronic versions of both the Handbook and companion PowerPoint slides each in two formats. A guide describing the uses of these tools is provided in the Handbook. The CD-ROM costs $10 for CAS member states and $20 for nonmember states.
