How can I access the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum?

Most state and district users access the Surveys by joining the CCSSO SEC Collaborative. Through the Collaborative, users develop a plan for using the SEC Surveys including the logistics required to administer the surveys, access the surveys online (or in paper format), receive technical assistance or professional development to analyze and use the data, and conduct alignment analyses.

However, anyone can purchase the Surveys. Local districts, researchers, or other users can contract with CCSSO or our partner institution, Wisconsin Center for Education, for access to the Surveys and to obtain data reports, alignment analyses, or receive technical assistance or professional development. Contact Carlise Smith at CCSSO or John Smithson at WCER.

The Surveys are offered in two forms: paper and online. Wisconsin Center for Education Research hosts the online Survey and reporting system. The WCER website provides useful information about the Surveys, guidance on using the online Surveys, and reports of the data results. The online/web Survey must be completed through a computer terminal with access to the Internet. The cost of the Survey is on a per teacher basis. The cost does include seeing the results and using pre-designed reporting graphs and content maps online but does not include an analysis or interpretation of what the charts say. CCSSO offers training sessions and leadership workshops to assist state and local leaders in analyzing their SEC data. Training can be contracted through CCSSO or one of the SEC project partners or through our online video tutorial. Costs of these resources are itemized in the document Costs of SEC Tools and Services.

A current guide, Surveys of Enacted Curriculum: A Guide for SEC State and Local Coordinators, is an excellent resource for accessing the Surveys and identifying other services that would be useful to SEC project leaders.

You can see what the Surveys look like by viewing them online in PDF format or ordering a copy through CCSSO.
