The Council of the Chief State School Officers has surveyed and reported on trends in state policies since 1987. The biennial CCSSO state policy report gives 50-state tabular information on state education policies in the areas of time and attendance, early childhood education, graduation requirements, content standards, teacher licensure, school leader licensure, and student assessment. The policies are updated through cooperation of state education department staff, and from results of the annual CCSSO Survey on State Assessment Programs and other state-by-state policy information.

State Content Standards: A 50-State Resource

The state content standards establish what students should know and be able to do in subjects taught in K-12 classrooms. State content standards are typically developed by subject experts and educators within each state, reviewed by many stakeholders, and approved by state policymakers.

All of the information for this web resource was gathered by CCSSO staff from state websites. The web links for access to state content standards are current as of April 16, 2007. CCSSO will periodically update this web-based document for states that update the content standards or develop new standards.
