Content Area Literacy Guide
This guide is a resource to help high school teachers learn how to use literacy strategies as an essential means to help students master core content. The guide also includes a framework for effective lesson planning and a template to assist with planning content-area lessons that incorporate before, during, and after reading.
Part II: Literacy Instructional Strategies is a how-to guide of almost two dozen literacy instructional strategies that support students’ literacy development and their understanding of content. Each strategy includes a description, its purpose, step-by-step directions for use, and suggestions for differentiated applications. Each description also contains a quadrant chart that illustrates how each instructional strategy might be implemented in an english, mathematics, science, or social studies classroom.
