| Community-Based Organization High Schools |
This is no longer an active project. The description below is for informational purposes only.
In 2001 the Council received a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to undertake policy research and analysis to determine state levels of support to alternative and community-based organization high schools. A CBO high school is a nontraditional public education facility operated by a community-based organization whose academic curriculum culminates in a high school diploma. CBO schools offer full-time academic programs that can be completed in one to four years.
The CBO project attempts to promote awareness at the state level of the needs of students attending these schools and foster opportunities for states and local districts to support the educational outcomes of these students. To meet these goals, CCSSO has worked in collaboration with the Academy for Educational Development in surveying states, districts, and school sites within those states to examine and analyze their statewide, district- and school-level policies related to alternative and CBO high schools.
Based on survey findings, CCSSO has prepared and disseminated a case study report. The report, CBO High Schools: Their Value and Their Needs in an Era of Accountability, is now available online. |
