| Extended Learning Opportunities Task Force Meeting at the Summer Institute |
The ELO Task Force meeting convened on July 19, 2006 in Sunriver, Oregon. The meeting followed the Council’s Summer Institute and discussion started with its theme on International Education. Presenters included Judy Codding, Vice President for Programs and Chief Operating Office, National Center on Education and the Economy; Senta Raizen, Director, National Center for Improving Science Education, WestEd; Christopher Cross, Chairman, Cross & Joftus, LLC; Elizabeth Partoyan, Director of Research, Training, and Member Services, National School Board Association; and Jerry Weast, Superintendent, Montgomery County Public Schools. Participants considered time and learning within a larger global context; discussed state and district level initiatives to effectively implement extended learning initiatives as part of broader school reform and improvement efforts; learned about the work of the Time and Learning Taskforce and considered the implications of that work for state education agencies; and discussed next steps for deepening the work of the Council in the area of extended learning opportunities.
