Extended Learning Opportunities Task Force Meeting at the Annual Policy Forum


On November 18th, 2005 CCSSO convene the Extended Learning Opportunities Task Force in conjuction with the Annual Policy Forum.   Presenters included Deborah Vandell, Professor, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Eric Schwarz, Chief Executive Officer, Citizen Schools, Tiffany Cooper, Chief Program Officer, BELL, Xavier Botana Director, Assessment and Accountability Chicago Public Schools, who shared their research, experiences, challenges and successes in their work to provide children with high-quality extended learning opportunities.  The meeting highlighted the impact of extended learning opportunities on student academic achievement and positive youth development, the connections between research and state-level policy and the integration of extended learning opportunities with school improvement efforts.  Participants also had the opportunity to provide input on the Council’s revised policy statement on Extended Learning Opportunities.  The following materials from the meeting are available:
