State Education Accountability and Indicator Reports: Status of Reports across the States--2004
With the passing of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), federal accountability and reporting have been reinforced and expanded, in many cases resulting in an increase in the number of required indicators, levels to which data are disaggregated, and specific reports required at the local, district, and state levels. To better understand the information that states are providing to the public, CCSSO provides annual updates on how states are reporting on key state education indicators. For the 2004 update, CCSSO compiled this summary document on the status of the primary state education reports that include state assessment results for the 2002-03 school year. Most state reports are now titled "accountability reports" or "report cards." This 50-state compendium provides information on the following variables:
- the number of performance levels reported for student assessment information
- the level to which data are disaggregated, including race/ethnicity, gender, limited English proficiency, migrant status, disability, and poverty
- the number of years of data available for analyzing trends
- the grades for which data are reported for language arts and math assessments
Whenever possible, a state web site link is listed to facilitate access to these data; we also provide a link to each state’s NCLB adequate yearly progress (AYP) information on schools and districts and a link to the state’s district and school level report cards.
State Education Accountability and Indicator Reports: Status of Reports across the States--2003
Annually since 1994, CCSSO staff contact all state departments of education to collect and update information on current state education accountability and indicator reports published by states or published by local districts under a state mandate. This summary of reports is designed to provide state-by-state information on the types of reports published annually by states, when they are produced, and the levels at which statistics are reported.
