Task Forces Strengthening Partnerships for Native American Student Education
With the assistance from researchers at the Educational Testing Service (ETS), task force members including representatives from state education agencies, tribes, national Native American organizations, and, universities are developing several resources. These resources may be used by both policymakers and practitioners to implement strategies for improving the academic achievement of Native American students.
Each task force focuses on one of the following areas of concern:
- Early Childhood Education
- Policy, Finance, and Systems Building
- Literacy and Language Development
- Teacher Quality and Instructional Practice
- Health and Safety
- Parent, Family, and Community Involvement
Task force members drafted a series of papers that identify the current research, promising practices, potential partnerships, and potential funding sources for work in each of the six areas of concern. Task force members collected evidence of promising practices for educating Native American students that not only lead to academic achievement, but also to a greater understanding and commitment to the language, culture, and heritage of each individual Native student. |
