| Project to Update the INTASC Model Core Standards |
The Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC), a program of the Council of Chief State School Officers, has recently received funding to update the INTASC Model Standards for Beginning Teacher Licensing, Assessment and Development: A Resource for State Dialogue (Model Core Standards), which were released in 1992 and are used by 38 states, so that states, the teaching profession and the public can come to consensus around what a 21st century teacher should know and be able to do.
INTASC plans to bring together the best thinkers in the country around teacher policy and discuss what a vision of good teaching looks like in the 21st century learning context. The committee will meet four times over a two-year period to update the Model Core Standards and address the question: What have we learned from research about best practice, how children learn, and the learning context that should be included in this vision? At each meeting experts will present on the key topics to inform deliberations of the Committee.
This webpage is the place to keep up-to-date on the Committees' work and to provide us with ongoing feedback.
