Global Education

Global Education
The United States is a member of a global community—one joined by common economic, social, cultural, and civic concerns. Education in the United States must provide students and citizens the capability and the competitive edge to contribute to this larger global community. The members of the Council of Chief State School Officers have long held a commitment to the international dimensions of education. In 1984 the Council of Chief State School Officers issued its first policy statement regarding the international dimensions of education and called for U.S. students to be exposed to a wider variety of educational opportunities and for state education agencies to intensely explore promising international programs and determine how best to integrate those programs into the existing educational framework. CCSSO has since revised our policy statement and has successfully formed partnerships with countries all over the globe.

The focus of the Council’s current and continued work focuses around

  • cultural awareness
  • educational targeted policy exchange, specifically
    • leadership
    • teacher quality, development, effectiveness, support, and induction
    • assessment
    • achievement for all children and student support
  • Educational Practices Exchange Committee membership
