CCSSO and the Pearson Foundation In 2008, CCSSO launched a three-year international benchmarking agreement with partner education organization, the Pearson Foundation. This agreement was formed on the premise of two interconnected intentions: first, to capitalize on promising international practices and second, to assist state education agency leaders in not only understanding those practices but also supporting policy leaders in implementing them. This initiative was launched to examine specific areas of high need the members of CCSSO clearly articulated; family and community involvement (social support systems), math and science education, and information and computer technology literacy.
Singapore 2008 In July of 2008, CCSSO and the Pearson Foundation took four state education agency leaders to Singapore for the first of three promising practice summits. This first summit was designed to focus on math and science education and Singapore was chosen for its strength in that arena (Singapore students continue to lead the world on science and math international assessments). While there, CCSSO engaged in intense dialogue and information exchange with numerous other countries (including Malaysia, Korea, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, and Brazil among several others) and visited innovative institutes responsible for quality student learning.
