| Administrative Data Improvement |
The Administrative Data Improvement project provides resources and technical assistance to state education agencies for data system improvements and participation in federal data collection efforts. Funded through a contract with the U.S. Department of Education's (ED) National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the project supports the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems Grant Program, the work of NCES's Common Core of Data and National Forum on Education Statistics, and ED's Education Data Exchange Network (EDEN).
Specific activities conducted by CCSSO under the project are
- Support the administration of IES grant program for state longitudinal data systems, including
- Administration of the NCES Personnel Exchange Program, which allows SEA or local education staff to visit other education agencies to learn about promising practices in data collection activities.
- Development of the NCES Nonfiscal Data Handbooks online.
- Support for NCES Forum Task Forces in producing resources for SEAs on effective data systems, such as the Facilities Information Management: A Guide for State and Local Education Agencies.
- Coordination of state and federal efforts in support of ED's EDEN data collection activities, including
- hosting regional meetings
- disseminating information to states

- Supporting the work of ED in building a department wide Data Dictionary, which consistently defines the data elements collected by ED program offices from schools, districts, and state education agencies
- Support for the CCSSO Education Information Management Advisory Consortium's (EIMAC) General Statistics Permanent Standing Task Force.
- Providing technical assistance to states to improve data quality.
