Accountability Systems

Statewide accountability systems define a common set of indicators of the performance of students, schools, and/or districts. With federal education accountability requirements defined under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001, all states are now moving toward statewide systems to meet the goal of all students achieving proficiency by the 2012-13 school year. Development of statewide systems involves planning and development on numerous dimensions--including policies, assessment measures, data systems, consensus on indicators, definition of adequate yearly progress, reporting design, rewards, sanctions, federal requirements, and plans for assistance to schools in need of improvement. The services, products, and resources offered by the Council are designed to recognize this process and assist in planning and development on numerous dimensions.
