Rhode Island Creates Career Pathways Through New Skills for Youth Initiative

Students in the classroom

Rhode Island is one of 10 states that received a $2 million dollar grant to pursue a bold vision for career readiness in their state through the New Skills for Youth initiative.

The Rhode Island New Skills for Youth team embodies a statewide effort to improve career pathways. Rhode Island Commissioner of Education, Ken Wagner, along with the office of Governor Gina Raimondo’s, the Rhode Island Department of Education, Department of Commerce, Department of Labor and Training, institutions of higher education, business leaders, and educators worked together to create a plan with clear strategies and cross-sector ownership. The team designed a curriculum for students to align with post-secondary and industry, so that students leave high school earning either college credit or an industry recognized certification.
