The meeting aims for SEA staff members to engage in thoughtful discussion and share best practices on these issues. 2010 NCSA Planning Committee Meeting Washington, DC  (November 12, 2009) The Planning Committee is composed of fifteen members who represent state education agencies, local school districts, publishing and testing companies, business partners, universities, consultants, and educational organizations. The Planning Committee provides oversight for the development of the general program for the National Conference of Student Assessment. Through the consideration of the proposed presentation's ratings provided in the review panel phase, group discussion, and the application of their professional experience, they select the sessions to be presented at the conference. They also provide feedback on the design, layout, and graphics of the program; and organizing and participating in additional sessions as necessary. Common Core Validation Committee Meeting Washington, DC  (November 9, 2009) This initial Validation Committee Meeting will be the first in a series of opportunities for the committee to review the evidence for the common core standards, to critically discuss the standards documents and evidence used in their creation, and to begin the overall validation process. Writing Workgroup New York, NY  (November 5, 2009 - November 6, 2009) Common Core State Standards Adoption Summit Chicago, IL  (October 30, 2009) The purpose of this meeting is to bring together key state stakeholders to discuss adoption of the common core. Many of you have expressed interest in adopting these standards and given both the standards development timeline as well as the possible opportunities within Race to the Top competition, it is imperative that we all come together to discuss these topics. Invited to this meeting are chief state school officers, through CCSSO; governors’ education policy advisors, through NGA; and chairs of state boards of education, through NASBE. We encourage you to invite and bring with you a team of education stakeholders within your state who play a critical role in your state’s unique standards adoption process (as mentioned this should include your state's chief, state board chair, and governor’s policy advisor but also could include the chair of a state legislative committee on education, or key business leader). Whatever the composition of your team, we ask that you keep representatives from your state to a minimum, and not to exceed five (5) state stakeholders in attendance. NAEP 12th Grade State Pilot Meeting Washington, DC  (October 28, 2009) *Provide forum for NCES-state communication on NAEP 12th grade state-level pilot *Advise NCES on reporting data for the 11 states in the pilot SCASS - SSACI Fall Meeting Dallas, TX  (October 28, 2009 - October 29, 2009) CCSSO ELL Fall Meeting Portland, OR  (October 27, 2009 - October 28, 2009) 1. To facilitate States’ identification and knowledge of critical issues related to NCLB and the ESEA reauthorization as it relates to the new federal and state policies specifically with a focus on performance and measurement of Ells academic achievement. 2. To facilitate States’ collaboration on implementation of best practice with respects to the use and results of the Common Core in their state and across states. 3. To facilitate States’ investigations of solutions for meeting SEA’s needs and challenges regarding the education of Ells. SCASS - ECEA Fall Meeting Washington, DC  (October 27, 2009 - October 28, 2009) CCSSO HEAP Fall Meeting Denver , CO  (October 26, 2009 - October 28, 2009) Participants will: *Be updated on the status and needs of the work of the HEAP *Discuss the business of the HEAP and make recommendations for future directions *Review new project materials and be trained in their use *Review new developemnts in the HEAP web-based Assessment system and other professional development technologies used to advance the mission of HEAP *Choose and actively participate in professional development workshops on using assessment to advance standards-based health education and training *Choose and actively participate in issues roundtables regarding challenges and solutions in implementation *Develop state action plans to further implement standards-based health education and assessment EDFacts Fall Meeting - State CSPR and Accountability Director Chicago, IL  (October 26, 2009 - October 28, 2009) These two meeting attendees are sponsored by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE). The OESE contractor will cover travel, lodging and per diem expenses of these two attendees. The EDFacts Fall Meeting agenda focuses on an array of topics ranging from EDFacts updates, to how to gather, submit, and edit data, to what is the end result of data submissions. The upcoming meeting aims to allow participants to return to their SEA and create and submit accurate EDFacts files.
