Washington, DC, June 10, 2004 — The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) will sponsor the 34th National Conference on Large-Scale Assessment from June 20 – June 23 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts.
During the conference, over 1,000 professionals in education with an interest in student assessments conducted at the national, state, district, and classroom level will gather to discuss and debate new ideas and issues in assessment and examine new technologies. The theme for this year’s conference is two-fold: celebrating the 40th anniversary of NAEP and tackling the tough challenges of No Child Left Behind.
Every year, the conference attracts the best and brightest from federal, state, and local education agencies, representatives from test development and publishing companies, university staff and researchers, policy makers and analysts from all levels of government, teachers, graduate and doctoral students, education association staff, and consultants convene to share the latest findings, developments, and research on large-scale assessment. The conference also examines technical concerns related to the development of performance assessments and new standards-based assessments.
Highlights at this year’s conference include
- an opening session with Massachusetts Commissioner of Education, David Driscoll,
- a pre-conference Forum on 12th Grade NAEP, which will identify technical issues surrounding the five recommendations on 12th grade assessment,
- a breakfast session with the Ray Simon, Assistant Secretary, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.
