Policy Statement on ESEA Reauthorization

This policy statement presents a vision for a “new deal” to guide reauthorization of the Elementary & Secondary Education Act (ESEA). States must continue to lead the way with bold, thoughtful education reforms to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for college and career. In return and to succeed, we need a new federal education law that invests in these state efforts and encourages innovation, evaluation, and continuous improvement—so that states can develop and implement policies to help districts and schools dramatically improve student achievement and close achievement gaps. This brief paper presents core principles and recommendations to guide ESEA reauthorization.

Policy Statement on School Health

The education community must look beyond standards setting and systems of accountability and join with public- and private sector mental health, health, and social services providers to address the widespread conditions that interfere with student learning and students’ prospects for healthy adulthood.

Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) Policy Statement

Since 1998, CCSSO has researched and developed activities to build state capacity to support the growth, implementation, and sustainability of high-quality ELOs. This policy statement, which was adopted by the CCSSO membership in 2006, outlines CCSSO's continued commitment and strategy to supporting Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO).

Global Education Policy Statement

More than ever before, students from around the globe are learning to adapt to change and to capitalize on expanding opportunities to become multilingual and learn to use mathematics, science, and technological skills in ways that meet or exceed the levels of current American students. We must take a constructive, positive, and innovative approach to prepare our children in a similar fashion, increasing the rigor of our academic standards, and thereby ensuring that all students are prepared to succeed in the global society.
