CCSSO Launches Technical Expertise Exchange

CCSSO will be collaborating directly with states, business partners, and recognized experts in the procurement field to develop common information requests that best help states understand the capacity, expertise, and innovative ideas that providers can offer as states move forward in implementing ambitious reform agendas.

 

CCSSO and the Asia Society Release Book on Global Competence

CCSSO, the Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning, and the Smithsonian will host a release of Educating for Global Competence: Preparing Our Youth to Engage the World on Wednesday, April 27 at the American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery.

 

CCSSO RELEASES MODEL CORE TEACHING STANDARDS

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) releases today the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards: A Resource for State Dialogue. The standards, a state-led effort, represent clear expectations about what all teachers should know and be able to do if they are to improve achievement of our next generation of students and are intended to set the foundation for educators, states, and policymakers to achieve their education reform goals.

 

Maryland High School Chemistry Teacher Named 2011 National Teacher of the Year

CCSSO announced today that Michelle Shearer, a high school chemistry teacher in Frederick, Maryland, is the 61st National Teacher of the Year. Shearer and all of the 2011 State Teachers of the Year will be recognized by President Barack Obama in a ceremony at the White House Tuesday, May 3.

 

CCSSO Briefing on State Waiver Applications: Nov 14, 2011 at 10am ET

Several states will submit applications to the U.S. Department of Education on November 14 seeking waivers of certain provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). These waivers will allow states the flexibility to develop stronger accountability and teacher evaluation systems, and provide relief from current provisions preventing states moving forward with reform.

 

CCSSO Welcomes New President and Board of Directors

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced today the 2011-2012 CCSSO Board of Directors. Elections took place during the 2011 Annual Policy Forum and Business Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom Luna, Superintendent of Public Instruction in Idaho was sworn in as CCSSO president and Mitchell Chester, Commissioner of Education in Massachusetts was named president-elect.

 

CCSSO Announces Finalists for 2012 National Teacher of the Year

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced the four finalists for the 2012 National Teacher of the Year today. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the program, which honors educators representing the teaching profession as their State Teacher of the Year. This prestigious program allows teachers from across the country to collaborate with policy makers at every level and advocate on behalf of the teaching profession.

 

Twenty-Four Countries and Regions to Convene in New York City for Second International Summit on the Teaching Profession

Chief state school officers from around the country and CCSSO Executive Director, Gene Wilhoit will join U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, educators and leaders from across the world at the second annual International Summit on the Teaching Profession (International Summit) in New York City, March 14-15.

 

USED Hosts Labor-Management Collaboration Conference May 23-24

Chief State School Officers are invited to attend this year’s Labor-Management Collaboration Conference from May 23 to 24 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Last year’s event in Denver was for districts only; this year’s event will be open to State as well as district teams.
