Program
NASA – Interdisciplinary, Independent Study
CCSSO, in partnership with and support from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is supporting investigation into the design and development of virtual learning environments that help individual learners understand learning goals, assess progress and record evidence of learning in physics and Common Core mathematics while customizing the learning experience to support their personal needs and interests. During this two-year effort, CCSSO has drawn on educational materials from NASA existing portfolio of resources, partnered with the Center for Applied Second Language Study (CASLS) at the University of Oregon to adapt their LinguaFolio platform for use in mathematics and physics, and engaged experts and educators in the online learning space through the Southern Regional Education Board's (SREB) vast network of professionals. The project builds on CCSSO's vision for a transformed education system that prepares the next generation of learners for lifelong learning, meaningful work, and citizenship. After the project is completed in October, 2011, CCSSO will continue to disseminate and promote use of products created as freely available instructional resources.
