Back to School: Engaging with Parents about Common Core
Date: August 26, 2013
Time: 3 p.m. ET (recording)
This webinar provides state education agencies with helpful information on reaching out to parents about the changes Common Core is bringing to their children's classrooms. Lee Ann Kendrick from the national Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Sharon Whitworth of the Kentucky 15th District PTA presented resources created and tactics used to engage, educate, and reach out to parents about the Common Core.
Parent engagement is a vital step in successful Common Core implementation. As more and more students experience the shifts of Common Core in the classroom, states need to be sure that parents are engaged and knowledgeable about these changes. With the new Common Core aligned assessments a school year away from being used in many states, preparing parents for the difference in rigor and scores is absolutely critical.
