Washington, D.C. (April 16, 2015) -- The Council of Chief State School Officers Executive Director Chris Minnich released the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee's bipartisan approval of the Every Child Achieves Act of 2015 by a unanimous vote:

"I commend Chairman Alexander and Senator Murray for their extraordinary leadership in advancing bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.  States need a stable, updated federal law that gives educators flexibility while preserving a strong focus on disadvantaged students. The Every Child Achieves Act strikes an appropriate balance between the state and federal role, and state Chiefs strongly support its speedy approval by the full Senate."

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
