CCSSO Statement on College- and Career-Ready Assessment Transition Flexibility
CCSSO issued the following statement today in response to a letter from Arne Duncan, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, regarding flexibility for the transition to college- and career-ready assessments:
"We appreciate the Secretary's acknowledgment today that there is a need for flexibility for states on different timelines when it comes to implementation of college and career ready standards and aligned assessments. This flexibility is not a blanket waiver, pause, or moratorium of requirements and we agree that states need to provide evidence for flexibility within a state's timeline. States remain committed to implementing plans to ensure that this is an opportunity to improve-not undercut or delay-meaningful accountability for raising student achievement and supporting educators."
