CCSSO Releases Statement on South Dakota Chief's Announcement

Washington, D.C. (October 13, 2017) -- The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Chris Minnich released the following statement about the retirement of South Dakota Secretary of Education Melody Schopp.

"Secretary Schopp spent decades working on behalf of students and educators in South Dakota and nationally. In recent years she increased teacher pay in her state, and committed to elevating the teaching profession across the country as President of CCSSO's Board of Directors. Her bold vision and leadership will be missed."

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
