Washington, D.C. (October 27, 2014) -- Today, Apple announced it has selected 114 schools to receive Apple ConnectED Grants. Apple's $100 million contribution will provide iPads and MacBooks, learning content, curriculum support, and wireless infrastructure to students and teachers. All grant recipients have 96 percent or more students eligible for free or reduced-priced lunches.

Chris Minnich, Executive Director of the Council of Chief State School Officers, applauded Apple for its contribution:

"The Council of Chief State School Officers, on behalf of state education leaders, has been working to create better learning opportunities for all students and teachers by improving access to wireless internet and digital devices. We applaud Apple for this unprecedented contribution that will make these learning opportunities a reality for many children across the United States."

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
