CCSSO Ranks Among Best Places to Work
Washington, D.C. (April 1, 2017) -- The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) has been named one of the 2017 Best Nonprofits to Work For, according to The NonProfit Times.
"The Council of Chief State School Officers is only as strong as the people who work here, and I am proud to lead CCSSO and have the opportunity to represent our state chiefs as well as our hard-working staff," says Chris Minnich, CCSSO executive director.
"Our team is driven by our aspiration to improve student achievement and support state school chiefs to deliver a high quality education to all kids."
This is the second year that CCSSO made the list of 50 organizations recognized. The NonProfit Times partnered with Best Companies Group, Inc. on this report, which is compiled from a multi-part process that includes a confidential employee survey. The eight core focus areas are:
- Leadership and planning;
- Corporate culture and communications;
- Role satisfaction;
- Work environment;
- Relationship with supervisor;
- Training, development and resources;
- Pay and benefits; and,
- Overall employee engagement.
In the 2017 report, CCSSO ranked No. 27 overall and No. 14 among medium-size nonprofits. In 2016, CCSSO ranked No. 37 overall and No. 19 among medium-size nonprofits.
CCSSO is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization that represents the public officials who lead departments of elementary and secondary education in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, the Bureau of Indian Education and the five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
As an organization, CCSSO is committed to ensuring that all students participating in our public education system -- regardless of background -- graduate prepared for college, careers, and life.
Through the anonymous survey, CCSSO staff shared why they enjoy working at the organization. Here are a few examples:
CCSSO is mission driven and led by individuals who believe passionately in improving the educational outcome of all kids, regardless of background. The organization cares about empowering individuals within the organization and is a place where people care about one another as people. It is truly a special place to work and I feel so fortunate to be here.
CCSSO treats its employees with respect and trusts that they will do the job they were hired to do. I know that if I am working on a project and need support, I will have it, and if I run into an issue that leadership needs to be brought in to assist with it, I can count on them.
Overall, people are treated with respect and given adequate balance between work and life responsibilities and there is a culture of trust between employees and managers. Highly motivated and intelligent people work toward meaningful goals here.
