Washington, D.C. (October 15, 2015) -- Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams announced today that he will step down from that position. The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Chris Minnich released the following statement:

"Commissioner Michael Williams brought a breadth of experience to his work leading the Texas Education Agency, and was committed to improving academic achievement for kids in the state. He oversaw the successful implementation of a new statewide accountability system, and prioritized closing the achievement gap by making it a priority in the accountability system. He will be missed, but I wish him the best."
