CCSSO Executive Director's Statement on Alabama Chief’s Retirement

Washington, D.C. (March 1, 2016) -- Alabama Superintendent of Education Tommy Bice announced today that he will retire from that position. The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Chris Minnich released the following statement.

"I congratulate Tommy Bice on his retirement as Alabama's Superintendent of Education. Dr. Bice is an outstanding leader whose commitment to public education spans nearly four decades. As State Superintendent, his Plan 2020 put the state of Alabama on a clear path to making sure every child receives a high-quality education. I wish him well in his future endeavors."

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
