Washington D.C. (November 16, 2015) -- The Council of Chief State School Officers' (CCSSO) Executive Director Chris Minnich released the following statement on the progress Congress is making to update the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The Chairs and Ranking Members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and House Education and the Workforce Committee announced Friday they now have a "path forward" for reauthorizing ESEA.

"We applaud members of the House and Senate for working together to negotiate a framework to bring before a conference committee to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act," Minnich said. "This progress is critical to creating a long-term, stable federal policy that gives states additional flexibility, while at the same time holding us accountable for results. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Congress in the coming weeks to finalize the reauthorization of this important law."
