CCSSO executive director Chris Minnich released the following statement in response to the 2012 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results released today.

"The lack of growth in the PISA results for U.S. students is an important sign we have more work to do.  I believe we are heading in the right direction as a country with the policies state education leaders are putting in place.  In fact, an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) alignment study of the Common Core and Mathematics for PISA suggests 'that successful implementation of the Common Core Standards would yield significant performance gains also in PISA.'  To me the stagnation in these results means we must get implementation of the Common Core State Standards and new assessments right and we must ensure educators are prepared for the classroom and are provided with professional development and feedback on their work to help them improve. We are heading in the right direction."
