Louisville, KY, November 19, 2010 - The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) kicked off the 2010 Annual Policy Forum (APF) today with a keynote address from Bill Gates, former CEO and Co-Founder of Microsoft, and Co-Founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. State education leaders from across the United States have convened in Louisville, Kentucky this week to collaborate on key state priorities for education reform.

The speech will be available online at 1pm EST Friday, November 19 at the following link: http://bit.ly/CCSSOAPF.

"It was a great honor to have Bill Gates speak with chiefs from across the country today at our Annual Policy Forum. He very directly addressed the reality of the tough economic times we are facing and the dire impacts on education. States are working hard together to continue education reform efforts aimed at improving student achievement when budgets are increasingly dwindling," said Gene Wilhoit, CCSSO Executive Director. "Mr. Gates spoke about the opportunity to use this age of innovation as the key to deliver meaningful reform. The chiefs applaud and fully embrace this idea as they develop innovative solutions to transform the education system in our country."
