On October 20, 2010 CCSSO officially launches the public review process of writing samples for EdSteps — an initiative to develop a tool to measure progress in skill areas that are traditionally difficult and costly to assess. This innovative program will create online continuums of student work and will help give students, parents, and teachers a clear idea of how a students’ performance compares to other students across the country, regardless of grade level.

The public can visit www.edsteps.org and participate in transforming student assessment by building the EdSteps Writing continuum by reading and providing feedback on student writing. EdSteps will collect reviews of student work samples from thousands of participants, including teachers, parents, and school administrators.

The launch of EdSteps writing review period is timed to celebrate and support the U.S. Senate designated “National Day on Writing.” For more information about EdSteps and for instructions for reviewing work visit www.edsteps.org or contact Margaret Millar at margaretm@ccsso.org.
