News Brief
U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Launches Third Year
U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS) is moving into its third year of the recognition award, with both school and district award categories. More information on our recognition award can be found here. Schools and districts may not apply directly to the U.S. Department of Education (ED), but must be nominated by their state education agencies. State education agencies are encouraged to indicate their (non-binding) intent to nominate schools in 2014 by August 1, 2013 by emailing green.ribbon.schools@ed.gov.
You can read about the 2013 ED-Green Ribbon Schools and District Sustainability Awardees in our Highlights from the 2013 Honorees report, which contains state-by-state summaries of the 78 honorees. The list of all selected schools and districts, as well as their nomination packages can be found here. Resources for all schools to move toward the three Pillars, in which the 2013 honorees are exemplary, can be found on our Green Strides portal here. We invite you to participate in our Green Strides Webinar Series, which lists webinars that help support all schools -- not just our honorees -- to reduce environmental impact and costs, improve health and wellness, and support effective environmental education.
