USED's Experimental Sites Initiatives Provides Federal Student Aid Flexibility for Competency-Based Programs

The U.S. Department of Education (USED) announced four new experiments for 2014-15 as part of its Experimental Sites Initiative (ex-sites), including one around student aid flexibility for competency-based programs. The ex-sites program is open to all higher education institutions, and those accepted to participate are provided with a waiver from regulations related to the experiment. In the case of the competency-based experiment, institutions could offer a subscription model to students that would link financial aid to content learned versus credit hours.
