USED launches Family Ed Policy Site and Issues Transparency Guidance

The U.S. Department of Education (USED) both issued transparency guidance for schools and districts and launched a family education policy resource website. More specifically, USED's Privacy and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) published guidance for school and districts on transparency best practices around data use. PTAC's Transparency Guidance shares best practices for school and districts on: what to communicate, how to communicate, and how to answer questions from parents regarding data practices. At the same time, USED's Family Policy Compliance Office (FPCO) launched the companion site: familypolicy.ed.gov for parents, students, and school officials to access resources and answers to questions around the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA).
