09/12/12Tougher Standards Coming to Louisiana's Nonpublic Schools
Alexandria Town Talk (09/12/12) Hasten, MikeLouisiana Superintendent of Education John White met with the Nonpublic School Commission on Sept. 11 to discuss a "conceptual framework" for new rules for nonpublic schools seeking funding and to offer vouchers. White said a number of review and approval processes are under revision with the goal of "minimizing work not dedicated to student achievement." He added that academics and quality will be a focus of the assessments. White said a graduated scale for the approval process allowing larger schools accredited by an independent agency to undergo less stringent reviews is under consideration and that the rules will be presented to the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education as early as October.
