Three States Get Race to Top Early-Learning Boost

Colorado, Wisconsin, and New Mexico won the second round of the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top early-learning competition, and they are now receiving additional money because they already had early-learning plans supported by the department that were not fully funded. California, Illinois, and Oregon also were put on notice that they could receive extra grant money for early-childhood education programs, but their grants have not been officially awarded yet. Department spokesman Cameron French adds that another round of the competition will be held this year, with the amount of money up for grabs to be announced soon.
