Thirty-Eight States Gather for Accountability Meeting in Washington, DC
CCSSO convened representatives from 38 states to collaborate on shared challenges and successes related to accountability, on January 9-10. Many of the states in attendance have received ESEA flexibility, while others are in the process of applying for flexibility or have decided not to apply at all. The meeting provided attendees with an opportunity to participate in working sessions, including discussions about the measures states are using to make accountability determinations, the growth models that are being used, the transition to new assessments aligned to college- and career-ready standards and the implications for accountability and graduation requirements, and how states are using the data from accountability determinations to target supports and interventions.
The theme of communicating about this work ran throughout the meeting. Representatives from Kentucky provided information about its communications strategy with the release of its new assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards and states had time to discuss their plans with peers. The meeting concluded with an opportunity for CCSSO to hear from states about how to provide continued support to states in this area, particularly as states continue to implement college- and career-ready standards and new assessments aligned to those standards.
