Tennessee Holds Teacher Training on the Common Core State Standards

The Tennessee Department of Education has launched the state's largest-ever training for educators who will help implement the Common Core State Standards in math and English. More than 32,000 Tennessee teachers will participate in this voluntary, six-week training course held in 17 different locations. Math training will take place this month, and English language arts and literacy training will be held over three weeks in July. "The scale of this training marks an unprecedented commitment to equip students with the critical thinking skills necessary to compete," State Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman says. "We are dedicated to giving our teachers the support they need to drive toward excellence during this transition."
