Tennessee Grants Funds for Race to the Top School Districts

The Tennessee Department of Education will award $8 million in grants from the First to the Top Scope of Work Supplemental Fund to 83 school districts. The money -- from the state's $501 million federal Race to the Top grant -- will be used for teacher evaluation, Common Core State Standards, or student assignment projects in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years. According to State Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman, "We felt this Race to the Top money would best serve the students of Tennessee at the district level, and we're excited to see so many districts take advantage of this opportunity. These funds will allow more resources to be spent on these critical areas across the state."
