Teachers Welcome Mission, Incentive
Delaware Online (11/24/12) Dobo, Nichole
About 28 educators across Delaware received a $10,000 bonus under the state's Talent Cooperative program that identified teachers, assistant principals, and school leaders who helped raise student test scores. The bonuses were offered to teachers who agreed to remain at the same school for at least two years. State Education Secretary Mark Murphy says, "It's about holding on to our great educators for our students who most need them." The bonuses came from a portion of the state's $119 million Race to the Top grant. The program not only rewards educators but also examines how higher student achievement goals were reached. The state plans to expand the program in the second year so that more educators and schools can qualify for the award.
