Recent Poll Indicates Large Majority of Americans Concerned About Student Data Privacy

Eighty-nine percent of Americans are concerned about student data privacy according to results from a recent poll conducted by Common Sense Media. Respondents are concerned about third party access to the data and many were in favor of additional regulation and an increase in transparency around privacy policies related to student data. Privacy concerns continue to appear in the news and state education chiefs recently sent the U.S. Department of Education a letter reiterating their promise not to share personally identifiable information about their students. Additionally, many states are looking to introduce privacy legislation during the current legislative session. CCSSO's Data Privacy & Security Policy Statement can be viewed here.
