09/05/12State Superintendent Invites Public Comment on New Education Standards
Hometown Station (09/05/2012)California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson has requested public comments on the new Career Technical Education (CTE) Model Curriculum Standards that is defined as the knowledge, concepts, and skills students need to acquire at each grade level. State law requires the development and adoption of these standards, which should incorporate career technology into academic education for grades 7-12. The standards outline learning goals in 59 career pathways in 15 industries. Torlakson says, "I want all students to have the skills they need for demanding careers or the rigors of college after graduating from high school. That's why it is so important for all Californians [to] have input on these new standards to assure that our students have the best programs to help them succeed and prepare for the future." The standards are written for high-quality coursework and align with the Common Core State Standards to help students better meet the demands of a 21st century workplace. The comment period for the CTE standards ends on Sept. 19.
