State Superintendent Adopts English Language Standards

Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn said the state has adopted the new Washington English language proficiency standards to correspond with the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. The transition to the new standards will begin in the 2014-15 school year. "As our state transitions to Common Core and Next Gen, it's important that we meet the needs of our English language learners. These new standards will help us better serve this growing population as they work toward both language and academic proficiency," he explained.
