State Says Schools Will Now Follow 'Florida Standards'

Florida Education Commissioner Pam Stewart says the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) will be rebranded into the Florida Standards, and the State Board of Education will consider about 100 changes for the standards in February. The changes include 60 new standards, 37 clarifications, and two deletions, as well as standards beyond the CCSS. "I think that it is completely appropriate for us to call our standards the 'Florida Standards.' I think when we strengthen our standards, make these standards our own, provide clarification of 37 standards -- that clearly is saying that Florida is out on our own, making stronger standards and doing so in a very autonomous way," Stewart says.
