State, District Graduation Rates Improve

Long Beach Gazette (CA) (04/09/13) Ruhl, AshleighCalifornia Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson says the graduation rate for students who started high school in 2008 and graduated in 2012 was 78.5 percent, up 1.4 percent from the previous year. Meanwhile, the statewide dropout rate among these students fell by 1.5 percent to 13.2 percent. According to Torlakson, "There are great things happening in California's schools every day, and the upward climb of our graduation rate bears that out.
